Designing a departmental application specific to a
business need
Case Example: UAB Department of Rehabilitative Medicine-Research needed a simple program that could test stroke patients ability to track a circle on a pen-tablet computer. The program needed to be easily administered by grad-students, and easily taken by the patient. Results of the test needed to collected, tracked, quantified, and reported in a number of ways. The department was not interested in spending a lot of time and money on purchasing a shelf-made program, and making it "fit" to their need; nor were they interested in calling in a large programming company who would charge a lot of $'s. So UAB Department of Rehabilitative Medicine decided to call Crabtree. Literally, within a few short weeks a simple graphical stroke-test application was developed in Visual Basic for a fraction of what it would have cost through other means. "The application worked great. It looked like another Microsoft Windows program. It was very intuitive, and achieved everything we desired".
Case Example: Alabama Orthopedic Medicine-Patient Forms on the Web
Alabama Orthopaedic Medicine wanted to provide their patients the ability to fill out all patient forms prior to their doctor's appointment. The goal was to reduce office time for the patient, by having all forms completed ahead of time. Crabtree was able to take all existing patient forms, and post them to the practice web site where they could be filled out at the patient's leisure.

Case Example: US Steel-Large Scale Application Testing
US Steel had a programming project in full swing to roll out across all steel production lines. At US Steel, if a production line stops (for whatever reason), you are losing money; lots of money. Consequently, US Steel needed to be certain that the new application was tested in multiple different types of environments. Crabtree Consulting was hired to implement Application Testing using WinRunner and LoadRunner. Installing these software programs in a test environment enabled US Steel to test their new application against: thousands of users hitting at one time, small bandwidth connections, thin client interoperability with the new program, power outages, and server crashes. Bugs were detected within the code, and corrections made prior to rollout.
